Now back to my nap......
This is a delicious and easy all-purpose bread that will pair beautifully with your winter soups and leftover holiday roasts. Makes perfect sandwich bread too. Add roasted garlic and/or herbs to dress it up or keep it simple warmed with butter.
5 cups all purpose flour (approximately)
1 1/3 cup of hot water (110 degrees)
1 packet of yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
2 teaspoons of salt
1 tablespoon butter or oil
In a large bowl, combine the yeast with the hot water and sugar. Set aside to froth for around 1 hour.
Add salt and slowly mix in the flour one cup at a time until the mix gets too hard to stir with a spoon. Begin folding with hands and kneading, adding more flour if the mix is too sticky. You may not use all the flour. Keep kneading until the dough is elastic and smooth - usually around 10 minutes. Form into a ball and rub with oil or butter, place back in the bowl, cover with a damp cloth and set aside for 1 1/2 hours to rise.
Preheat oven to 415 degrees. Punch the dough down and transfer into a bread loaf pan. Rub or brush the top with oil or butter and place aside for another 30-45 minutes to rise.
Bake for 30 minutes. Let cool before cutting.
